Set in the small, historic town of
Warwick and situated next to the famous castle, this
beautiful old building was the home of Thomas Oken in
the early sixteenth century, making it around 500 years
old. Oken, believed to be the richest man in Warwick
at the time, made a fortune dealing in wool and woven
fabrics. He died on 29th July 1573 and left most of
his money and valuables to aid the poor and to fund
education and housing in Warwick. Every year, as stated
in his will, there is a Feast Day which is still held
today; the toast in honour of Thomas Oken, Merchant
and Mercer of the town of Warwick.
Today, this delightful Tudor building has been restored
to its original magnificence as a traditional English
tearoom.
